How Do I Stop Corten Rust Staining My Paving

The look and style of warm brown patina-covered Colden steel planters is very popular.
While the patina on planters is loved by almost everyone, many people do not want the patina to stain the stone or concrete surface the planter is on.
When steel planters are exposed to rain and moisture, the metal oxidizes and forms a protective patina. During the oxidation process, rust particles are carried by water to the surface where the planter is located.
When using a corten steel planter, the best way to eliminate rust spots is to design the planter installation to avoid rust runoff onto concrete, pavers or patio stone.
In the installation described above, the planter is placed directly on the base and the concrete pavers are placed on either side of the planter, leaving a 1/16-inch gap between the pavers and the planter. The rust flows to the lower floor and does not contact the concrete pavers.
