Will the fire pit damage my deck?
Possibly, yes. Please note that, as with any fire, heat from the bottom can cause slate, stone and other surfaces to stain, crack or break.
When used on grass, the grass will burn and may not regrow.
When using larger slabs as surfaces, extra care must be taken due to thermal expansion.
Place the fire pit on another flat board that you don't mind breaking and/or purchase a fire pit with a taller stand.
You can minimize the heat from the base by putting sand in the bottom of the fire pit, but that doesn't mean you can use it on any surface.
Never use a fire pit near long grass as it can catch fire, especially in dry conditions.
