Why use seasoned wood?
Simply put, the drier the wood, the better it burns and a change in legislation in 2021 means that any wood you use must have a moisture content of less than 20%.

The reason for this is that using wood with a higher moisture content can lead to increased smoke and emissions with little heat output, as well as soot build-up and darkening of the stove glass.

For example, oak takes more than two years to fully mature.

If you cut your own lumber, one way to know if it's seasoned after storing it for the recommended time is to look for radial cracks in the cross-section of the logs, loose bark, and dull color. Also, seasoned wood weighs significantly less than wet wood.
