Comparison Of Several Steel Bridge Deck Pavements

Different asphalt paving materials are used to pave steel bridge decks, and there are obvious differences not only in performance but also in construction technology and project cost. Judging from the actual application situation in many countries, in terms of performance and service life, epoxy asphalt paving is the best, followed by cast asphalt and SMA, and ordinary asphalt is the worst. In terms of construction technology, although the epoxy asphalt mixture mixing process is not too complicated, it has very strict temperature and time control; the pouring asphalt process is special and requires special mixing equipment; SMA is just more complicated than ordinary asphalt pavement. In terms of project cost, if compared with the same thickness, the cost of epoxy asphalt paving is the highest, followed by cast asphalt paving. The cost of SMA is about 20% to 30% higher than that of ordinary asphalt, but it is more expensive than epoxy asphalt and cast asphalt. Asphalt is low. However, due to the high strength of epoxy asphalt, the pavement layer can be thinned, which reduces its own weight and helps reduce the cost; the thickness of the cast asphalt pavement layer is also thin, or it can be used in combination with ordinary asphalt pavement.
