What are the weaknesses of Corten steel?
Corten Steel Uneven coloration caused by atmospheric conditions and oxide stains are some of the weaknesses of Corten Steel.
Unlike paint coatings, Corten steels are characterized by low maintenance. Over time, the surface oxide layer of Corten steel becomes more stable, unlike painted finishes which gradually break down due to atmospheric factors and therefore require frequent maintenance.

A common problem with exposed Corten steel is that the oxides are water soluble, especially in the early stages of oxidation. As a result, rainwater that washes the surface of the steel also picks up a certain amount of dissolved oxides, which can lead to a slight reddish color or rust staining in areas of water deposition.
Especially on concrete surfaces, these stains are difficult to remove. It is a well known problem that over time, as the patina ages and becomes more stable, it will become softer and softer.
